But if you do this, remember to use less soap on it, since excess soap could harden the material, thus making it brittle and breakable as time goes by.
Genuine, non-synthetic wicker, on the other hand, is different: Since it’s actually wood-based (rather than plastic), the mesh has a tendency to absorb water (especially if it hasn’t been treated to be water-resistant). That’s why it’s not recommended that you use water to clean it: it can cause the wicker to expand.
Outdoor furniture made of steel or cast iron: Be sure that the manufacturer has taken steps to make it painted or coated with a colorless varnish or gloss. This acts as a protective coating, and works to to prevent water from getting into contact with the metal. Of course, this helps to avoid corrosion, making it last longer and retain its durability.
Some manufacturers use a powder coating material on metal furniture. This provides it protection from all kinds of weather. Powder coating can be better than the usual metal paint that’s used to touch up or finish some metal furniture, as it provides for a much thicker weather-proofing protection.
